Free font resources

There are few webpages listing free font resources that are free in the sense of the Free Software Foundation. Free software is similar to (but slightly different than) open source software, and includes such software projects as GNU and Linux. This webpage focuses on free font resources primarily for European Latin-based scripts, and secondarily for Greek and Cyrillic-based scripts. I don’t know anything about other scripts, but I think it would be great if there were a similar page for other scripts.

Count Lacudra (Mike Arlo) needs lessons in listening to the soundtrack when the threads of his unlife show signs of unraveling. Max Madblood (Jerry F. Harrell) and Nurse Patience Dream (Penny Palen) can only stand by and watch the train wreck as Grinfield (Craig T. Adams) is lured off by the siren song of love, happiness and money. No warrants needed

What: A business traveler protests the warrantless search and seizure of his laptop by Homeland Security at the U.S.-Canada border.

When: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rules on July 24.

Outcome: Three-judge panel unanimously says that border police may conduct random searches of laptops without search warrants or probable cause. These searches can include seizing the laptop and subjecting it to extensive forensic analysis.

(from Tech News on ZDNet, Police blotter: Laptop border searches OK’d)

If they can do it at the border, they can do it anywhere they want: one piece of US soil is just like another. It’ll get worse before it gets better.

A first look at SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Wise business IT executives should start considering SLED 10 for their main desktop operating system as well. Vista continues to be troublesome, and it’s looking more and more like Vista may not ship in January. XP remains a bad security joke and an operating system all in one.

If you’re considering a business desktop alternative, SLED 10 should be at the top of your shopping list.
